Canadian deathcore pioneers DESPISED ICON have released the music video for their brand-new single “The Apparition”, taken from their upcoming seventh studio album Shadow Work, due October 31st via Nuclear Blast Records.
“The Apparition” captures DESPISED ICON at their most visceral and emotionally charged. The track merges death metal aggression with the band’s trademark hardcore punch — Lyrically, it explores themes of loyalty, betrayal, and spiritual decay, turning personal pain into cathartic fury.

“We are really stoked to present this third single to all of you,” says guitarist Eric Jarrin. “The Apparition holds a special place in my heart as it is the last song I wrote for this record. With the help of Alex for the arrangements, I pushed the melodic envelope a bit further and came up with one of the most crushing breakdowns on the album.”
He continues:
“This song also marks our first collaboration with Simon Marchand and Disjonctés Productions. Not only did he understand the very personal lyrics of The Apparition, but he also found a powerful, artistic way to translate it visually while capturing the energy of the band performing. Thanks for watching.”
The music video, directed by Simon Marchand (Disjonctés Production), intertwines striking imagery with the band’s explosive live energy, a vivid reflection of the song’s emotional weight.
With Shadow Work, DESPISED ICON deliver their most precise and dynamic work to date, balancing relentless speed, groove, and technical mastery while expanding the melodic and atmospheric scope of their sound. The result is an album that both honors the band’s legacy and pushes it forward into new creative territory.
DESPISED ICON will join SANGUISUGABOGG for a 22-date U.S. tour this fall, kicking off November 4th in Detroit, MI, and wrapping November 30th in Columbus, OH, before two sold-out hometown shows in Montreal on December 6th & 7th.
