Polish technical thrash trio SPECIES is streaming their scorching new album Changelings in its entirety ahead of its official release this Friday, September 19th, via 20 Buck Spin. The record marks the first-ever release from a Polish band on the acclaimed U.S. label.
Following their 2020 debut To Find Deliverance, an album that earned a spot on 20 Buck Spin’s Best of 2022 list, SPECIES returns with a bold step forward in both vision and execution. Changelings is a dizzying display of thrash aggression that weave an otherworldly dialogue throughout the record. Imagine John Carpenter co-producing Rust In Peace behind the Iron Curtain, and you’ll have a sense of its atmosphere: bristling with sci-fi paranoia, alien terror, and Cold War menace.

Highlights include the ten-minute closer Biological Masterpiece, which traverses hyperspeed assaults, dystopian lulls, and instrumental pyrotechnics in a climactic finale. Produced by SPECIES and Filip Pągowski, the album features drums tracked at Nebula Studio by Tomasz Stołowski, guitars/bass/vocals recorded at No Stress Studio, mixing by Pągowski, and mastering by Damian Herring at Subterranean Watchtower Studios.
