Today, Louisiana heavy metallers Void are streaming their highly anticipated second album, Forbidden Morals, in full at the New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal (NWOTHM) YouTube channel. Since their formation in 2021, Void have stood apart from the many bands bearing the same name. Emerging from the haunted swamplands of Lafayette, Louisiana, they’ve carved their own dark path with 2023’s self-released debut Horrors of Reality. That record quickly caught the attention of Shadow Kingdom, who reissued it and followed up with the chilling 7” Return of the Phantom.
Now, Void return with Forbidden Morals, a sophomore effort that plunges listeners deeper into their gothic, castle-bound nightmare world. Across 10 tracks and 46 minutes, the album conjures imagery of candlelit corridors, blood-soaked rituals, and iron gates under moonlight—an atmosphere wrapped in sharp, technical thrash metal riffing and soaring, dramatic solos.
Forbidden Morals not only reprises fan-favorite “Return of the Phantom,” but also pushes further into epic storytelling and eerie theatrics. Influences echo from early Metallica, Mercyful Fate, Annihilator, Toxik, Realm, and Powermad, but Void increasingly sound like a band defining their own sinister realm.
With a staggering level of musicianship and daring songwriting, Forbidden Morals feels less like an album and more like opening a cursed tome inside an ancient stone fortress. Void are no longer the influenced, they’re becoming the influencers.
